The DeWalt DWE7480 is part of the new series of saws recently launched by DeWalt. In fact, this is an updated version designed to replace the very popular DW745, which has been a reliable performer for the company. The DW745 has noticed a lot of boxes for carpenters and dealers, so it has always had an excellent yield because it was and still is an excellent product, well done. After all, we carpenters only want the table saw to choose something that is well-designed, easy to install and always delivers accurate cuts. And as long as DeWalt continues to produce large table saws, we will continue to buy them.
You can see the links to DWE7480 and DWE7480XA. These saws are exactly the same as the XA version, which comes with a very strong scissor beam that folds flat for storage and transport. I recommend the version with the standard, because the difference between the two is only about $20.
Let’s get back to the mission. DeWalt tried to fix some of the few bugs in the DW745. With some it worked, but with others it didn’t. (psst !!! Best saw blade, please).

Height and weight
As you’d expect from a portable table saw. The DeWalt model is available with a weight of 48 pounds (weight without support), only 3 pounds more than its predecessor, the DW745. It has a very compact table size of 22 x 23 inches. The only small table saw in this class is the Bosch GTS1031. However, the DWE740 has a larger bandwidth, which is good news for anyone working with full plate material. This is achieved by using a telescopic fence, which cannot be extended to achieve a tear strength of 24 inches, allowing the whole plate to be broken in two.
The shear bar belonging to the DWE7480XA version of this saw is robust, reliable and ingeniously simple. Okay, so that’s not the kind of smart design we saw at the Bosch Gravity Rise booth on 4100-09, or the automotive styling booth we found at the SawStop JSS-MCA. But for 20 bucks, it’s an absolute bargain.
When it comes to portability, this saw is the winner. One of the lightest and smallest table saws to date.

Sheets and Dado
It is common to complain that the saw blade, which is part of most table saws, removes the waste. And the DWE7480 is no exception. The blade has 24 10-inch teeth. It doesn’t have enough resonance holes for laser cutting, it has small tungsten carbide teeth, but it’s grinded and vomited well at the factory, but I’m going to give DeWalt a lot of leeway here. Let’s not forget that DeWalt here made a $400 table saw. So if you’re bored, give up and get one of the high quality knives available on the market. Something like this Freudian blade.
Now I have to say that you can’t use the dado blade with this saw because the shaft of this saw isn’t long enough to hold it. If that’s what you really need from the saw. I want to take a closer look at the Bosch GTS1031, which is capable of cutting the dado by half an inch. I’ve heard that some people have reached 5/8, but that’s the absolute maximum. It turns out to be the largest dado available in this class of 13/16 saws. If you want that power, I’d look in the DeWalt DWE7490X.
The maximum cutting depth at 90 and 45 degrees is 3-1/8 and 2-1/4. This is the standard for portable table saws.
Fence and gauge
It comes with the same telescopic slatted base that was very popular on the DW745. This allows you to adjust the blade quickly and accurately every time. It glides easily over the ruler and is attached perfectly at right angles to the blade. It’s an excellent system that works well. It can also be found on DeWalt DWE7490X, DWE7499GD.
The saw comes with a standard groove for square mitres (as opposed to the T-pillar used in the Bosch GTS1031) and a fairly uniform mitre size.
The engine is an area improved with the DWE7480, just like the DW745 it is powerful enough to work on hardwood. Maximum speed of 4800 rpm, which is faster than the DW745, which runs at 3850 rpm. The DWE7480, like all table saws in the portable class, uses a 15 amp direct drive motor that has the advantage of being lightweight but low volume. The closest competitor of this saw in terms of engine is the Bosch GTS1031.
The DWE7480 is supplied with the modular security system DeWalts ITE PRO. It is a tool-free knife protection system consisting of a lifting and emptying blade, blade protector and non-return valves. It can be assembled and disassembled in about 30 seconds.
DeWalt has done an excellent job with the DWE7480. Indeed, he tried to learn from the reactions of his predecessor, which resulted in the improvement of the machine and its ability to tear sheets to normal size. Its robust design and fast, accurate fence make it an excellent choice for the carpenter or dealer who needs a portable cutting room. This saw is incredibly valuable. For less than $400 you get a small, light table saw. It features a powerful motor, full-size panel cutting, a glossy fence system and a very safe modular system to protect the knives and riveting knives.
More information about this saw can be found on the website of DeWalt.
